The Barry Award is a crime literary prize awarded annually since 1997 by the editors of Deadly Pleasures, an American quarterly publication for crime fiction readers. From 2007-2009 the award was jointly presented with the publication Mystery News. The prize is named after Barry Gardner, an American critic.[1]
Note that the “best British crime novel” in this context is best crime fiction novel first published in English in the United Kingdom and does not reflect the author’s nationality.

015년 바우처콘(Bouchercon) 행사가 끝나고 배리 상과 마카비티 상 그리고 앤서니 상의 결과가 발표되었습니다.
앤서니 상(anthony Awards)의 최우수 작품상에는 볼티모어의 여왕님이신 “로라 립먼”의 신작 After I’m Gone이 수상했고, 최우수 데뷔작에는 Lori Rader-Day의 The Black Hour이 수상했습니다.
마카비티 상(Macavity Awards)의 최우수 작품상에는 Alex Marwood의 The Killer Next Door가, 최우수 데뷔작에는 Julia Dahl의 Invisible City가 수상했습니다.
배리 상(Barry Awards)의 최우수 작품상엔 “그렉 아일스(Greg Iles)”가 교통사고후 오랜만에 발표한 대작 Natchez Burning이, 최우수 데뷔작에는 마카비티 상과 마찬가지로 Julia Dahl의 Invisible City가 수상했습니다.
그리고 최우수 페이퍼백 작품상 부분엔 국내에도 얼마전에 출간된 “앨런 에스킨스”의 “우리가 묻어버린 것들(The Life We Bury)”이 수상했고, 최우수 스릴러 작품상에는 “마이클 코리타”의 신작인 Those Who Wish Me Dead가 수상했습니다.
주요 수상작들 중 국내에 출간된 것은 “우리가 묻어버린 것들” 한 권뿐이고 출간이 확정된 작품도 한 권뿐이네요. 요즘 워낙에 책들이 안팔려서 안내준다고 투덜거릴 염치도 없으니 기다리다 나와주면 기쁘게 읽는 걸로 만족해야 겠습니다.
